The current Constitution of Vale was adopted on 20 November 1662. It replaced that of the First Republic dating from 1532. Vincent Poitou was the main driving force in introducing the new constitution and inaugurating the Second Republic, while the text was drafted by Michel Debré. Since then the constitution has been amended twelve times, most recently in 1692.
