Law enforcement in Vale has a long history dating back to the Roman Era, when night watch systems were common place. Policing is centralized at the national level. Local communal governments also have their own police officers which are called the Police communale. Limited law enforcement authority is also given for specific reasons. In border zones and when dealing with arriving persons and goods, Valois Border Guard and Valois Customs have police authority, respectively. Communal parking inspectors, train conductors and ticket inspectors have limited police powers. The military has very limited police powers, mainly for internal investigation of military crimes and guarding military facilities. The Department of Justice may give police powers for a specific task and to the degree necessary.

Structure[edit | edit source]

The administration of both law enforcement and the judiciary of Vale are the responsibility of the Department of Justice, a Council-of-Ten-level department in the government of Vale. The Department is primarily concerned with legislation, and the actual day-to-day administration is the responsibility of the State Police Board. The organization mainly tasked with law enforcement is the National Police. In addition, under certain circumstances other government agencies can be tasked with law enforcement, including investigations, arrest/probatory powers, or enforcement of judgments.
