Fœderal Nuclear Regulatory Authority |
The Nuclear Regulatory Authority (US/NRA), officially the Fœderal Nuclear Regulatory Authority (FNRA), is a Federal Council Authority of the United States for the purpose of coordinating State regulation of civilian nuclear energy and overseeing Federal regulation of military nuclear energy and nuclear weapons, as well as directly regulating civilian nuclear energy in the Territories. The Authority is tasked with ensuring that proper safety regulations for civilian aspects of nuclear energy (including regulating the medical uses of radioisotopes and ionizing radiation in general, in addition to energy generation) are established by the States (directly establishing those regulations in the Territories) and for Federal regulation of military aspects of nuclear energy (including nuclear weapons in general and nuclear power reactors operated by the military).
