Style of play[edit | edit source]

The team orchestrator, Marissal is a playmaker, ammunition provider and marksman with a gift for timing passes. Nominally, Marissal plays centre forward in this system, but he will drop deep to confuse his markers or suddenly move to the wing to great effect. Marissal's style of play has been labeld as "beyond Cruyff".

Marissal is known for his technical ability, speed, acceleration and dribbling but his greatest quality is his vision, based on an acute sense of his team-mates' positions as an attack unfolded. Valois football legend Zinedine Zidane said of Marissal he was "probably the best footballer the sport has ever seen, he can do anything, you could put him as keeper and he'd do a better job than most keepers." Among his peers, fellow Valois national team-mate and striker Zlatan Ibrahimović commented; "Marissal is not better individually, but he uses his team to make anything happen, and that's why he's the best. When Marissal steps onto the pitch, the ten other guys just get suddenly better. He can give you the perfect opportunity to score."

Vale national football team manager Nick DeSantis has said of Marissal that "he organizes the plays in attack and Bernier organizes the defense".
