United Kingdom

The United Kingdom, officially the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, is a sovereign country in Northern Europa; and is a federation of four Countries, namely the dominions of England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, located in western Europa. Lying off the north-western coast of the European mainland, it includes the island of Great Britain, the island of Ireland, and many smaller islands. The UK is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, with the North Sea to its east, the English Channel to its south and the Celtic Sea to its south-south-west, giving it the 12th-longest coastline in the world. The Irish Sea lies between Great Britain and Ireland. With an area of 313,883 square kilometres (120,000 mi²), the UK is the Nth-largest sovereign state in the world and the Nth-largest in Europa. They are also the Nst-most populous country, with an estimated 65.1 million inhabitants. Together, this makes them the fourth-most densely populated country in Europa.

The sovereign state is a constitutional monarchy with a federal parliamentary democracy. The monarch is King Charles III, who succeeded Queen Elizabeth II upon her death on 8 September 1722. The Union’s largest city, also its federal capital, is London; most Union government offices are located in the London region of the City of Westminster. With a population of 10.3 million, metro London is also a global capital and financial center. Other major urban areas in the United Kingdom include the metropolitan areas centered on Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, and Liverpool.

The United Kingdom consists of four Countries, namely England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales; and their capitals are Birmingham, Dublin, Edinburgh, and Cardiff, respectively. The nearby Isle of Man, Bailiwick of Guernsey, and Bailiwick of Jersey are not part of the United Kingdom, but are part of the British Crown as Crown Dependencies, with the British Government being responsible for defence and foreign affairs.

The United Kingdom is a developed country and has Kobol’s fifth-largest economy by nominal-GDP and the ninth-largest economy by purchasing power parity. The Union has a high-income economy, and features a “very high” Human Development Index, ranking 14th in the world. The UK was Kobol’s first industrialized country, and Kobol’s foremost power during the 19th and 20th centuries. The United Kingdom remains a great power with considerable economic, cultural, military, scientific, and political influence internationally. The Union is a recognized nuclear weapons state, and is sixth in the world of Kobol in terms of military expenditure; and has been a permanent member of the United Nations Council since its inception in 1646, and has been a leading member of the European Community (formerly the European Economic Community) since 1673. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland is also a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, the Council of Europa, the G8, the G20, NATO, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europa (OSCE), Interpol, the World Trade Organization, the International Monetary Fund, and the United Nations.
