The Presidential Office (Valois: Bureau du Président, commonly known as Le Bureau) is an executive office of the Republic of Vale, associated and working cooperatively with the Government of Vale and the Council of Ten. It consists of NUM secretariats.
Standard[edit | edit source]
The Standard of the President of Vale consists of a black direwolf being kept and surrounded by pairs of humanoid arms. Designed by Lars Gustafsen in 1663 for President Vincent Poitou, the Standard symbolizes the unity of all the races in Vale, and the bravery of its people and the duties of the President to keep the dark souls out of Vale's political life.
Organization[edit | edit source]
Hand[edit | edit source]
The Hand (Valois: La Main) is the ombudsman of the political institutions of Vale, appointed by the President, who has the power to delay a legislative vote in the Senate (unique amongst ombudsmen). Besides his ombudsman duties, he is also to witness the current and future domestic policies of the Republic, ensuring they do not overlap foreign or defense policies and vice versa. The office of the Hand has one ombudsman (deputy-Hand) and five assistant ombudsmen. The officials are elected for a term of four years. The other Valois official charged with the supervision of public power is the Chancellor of Justice, part of the Ministry of Justice. The jurisdiction of the two offices overlaps, but the Hand is the authority specially charged with the handling of complaints by military servicemen, conscripts, prisoners and other persons in closed institutions. He also regularly inspects prisons, garrisons and Valois peacekeeping missions abroad. The other special duty of the Hand is the supervision of police undercover and wiretapping activities.
Secretariat of Defence[edit | edit source]
The Secretariat of Defence (Valois: Secrétariat de la Défense) is responsible for defending the Republic of Vale from internal and external military threats. It oversees most of the Vale Armed Forces, but also Vale's state-owned military industry. The Secretariat is led by the Secretary for Defence who is appointed and supervised by the President.
Secretariat of Foreign Affairs[edit | edit source]
The Secretariat of Foreign Affairs (Valois: Secrétariat des Affaires Étrangères) manages Vale's diplomatic and consular relations, to encourage the country's international trade and to lead Vale's international development and humanitarian assistance. It is also responsible for maintaining Valois government offices abroad with diplomatic and consular status on behalf of all government departments. The Secretariat is led by the Secretary for Foreign Affairs who is appointed and supervised by the President.
