The Capital Area Rapid Transit, locally known as the CART, is a mass rapid transit system encompassing light rail, bus and light metro (e.g., Stadtbahn or Pre-metro) systems that is owned by the San Francisco Bay Area Regional Transit Authority, an interstate compact agency between the Fœderal Capital Territory and California Territory, and operates in the San Francisco Bay Area; specifically in the Fœderal Capital Territory proper, as well as the California counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Mateo, and Santa Clara. The Capital Area Rapid Transit system also services San Francisco International Airport, which, while legally part of California Territory soil, operates de facto as an exclave of the Fœderal Capital Territory through the Fœderal Capital Territory Department of Transportation.
