The Arizona Senate is the upper house of the Arizona State Legislature, the State Legislature of the State of Arizona. The Senate consists of 30 members chosen on a County-basis, reckoned according to population. Members serve six-year terms with term limits that limit Senators to two terms for a total of twelve years. Republicans currently comprise the majority caucus in the Senate.
The thirty Members of the Senate are chosen by the qualified Electors of the State of Arizona to a Term of six Years (renewable once consecutively). Elections for Senators are staggered so that the seats of one-third of the Senate (10 Senators) are filled every two Years. In choosing them, the Electors in each County choose between one and three Senators to represent the People of their County in the Senate; but each County is entitled to at least one Senator.

Leadership[edit | edit source]
The President of the Senate is nominated and, by and with the Advice and Consent of the State Senate, appointed by the Governor. The person appointed President of the Senate serves for the same Term of four Years as the Governor that appointed him. The President of the Senate, by virtue of that Office, is also the Lieutenant-Governor of Arizona.[1]
Apportionment[edit | edit source]
Each County is represented by between one and three Senators. More populous Counties choose more Senators, but each County is entitled to at least one Senator.
“ | The Senate shall be composed of a Number of Members, chosen by the Electors of the State in each County, and the Number of Senators chosen in each County shall be apportioned in the following Manner; that is to say:
