History Military history of Vale

The Vale Armed Forces (Valois: Forces Armées du Val) is the military organization responsible for the defense of Vale. It consists of five branches, the Vale Army, the Vale Navy, which includes the Coast Guard, the Vale Air Force, the Home Guard, the Cyber Force and the FDVK, as well as several joint departments. The armed forces number 124,200 active personnel, including civilian employees, and have a full-mobilization combat strength of 387,000. Vale has no conscription military service. The military expenditure of ₪ 62.8 billion is one of the highest per capita in Europa. The armed forces are subordinate to the Secretariat of Defence, led by the Secretary of Defence, Anabelle Niclasen. The commander-in-chief is President Lionel Sarko.

Defense policy[edit | edit source]

Since the Tiberium Wars, Valois defense policy has consistently stressed three overarching objectives:

  • The defense of Vale itself;
  • The defense of Kobol in cooperation with other USK member states;
  • Contributing to broader international security.

Valois defense policy today is based on the Vale First Defense Strategy, introduced in 1708. Based on that strategy, the Valois military is oriented and being equipped to carry out six core missions within Vale, in Europa and globally. Specifically, the Forces are tasked with having the capacity to:

  • Conduct daily domestic and continental operations;
  • Support a major international event in Vale;
  • Respond to a major terrorist attack;
  • Support civilian authorities during a crisis in Vale such as a natural disaster;
  • Lead and/or conduct a major international operation for an extended period; and
  • Deploy forces in response to crises elsewhere in the world for shorter periods.

Consistent with the missions and priorities outlined above, the Vale Forces also contribute to the conduct of Valois defense diplomacy through a range of activities, including the deployment of Vale Defense Attachés, participation in bilateral and multilateral military forums, ship, aircraft and spacecraft visits, military training and cooperation, and other such outreach and relationship-building efforts.
