The United States Department of Public Safety and Civil Defense, formerly the United States Department of Public Safety, is the department of the Federal Government of the United States responsible for domestic Security (in a supporting role vis-á-vis the States, and a leading role vis-á-vis the Territories and Districts); foreign Intelligence collection and dissemination; support of States’ homeland Security efforts; coordinating and directing Territories’ and Districts’ homeland Security efforts; collecting and compiling statistics from the States, Territories, and Districts on Crime and Violence; support of States’ civil Defense efforts; coordinating and directing the Territories’ and Districts’ civil Defense efforts; and implementing Continuity of Government plans developed by the Federal Council for the Federal Government. The Department is headed by an U.S. Secretary for Public Safety & Civil Defense, who is a member of the Federal Cabinet of the United States, and who is legally “the principal Adviser to the Governor-General on all Matters pertaining to the Department of Public Safety and Civil Defense.
