In the United Provinces of Canada, the State of the Confederation is the address presented by the Governor-General of Canada to a joint session of the Federal Parliament of Canada. The Constitution of Canada requires the Governor-General to address Parliament on the State of the Confederation “from time to time”, which by convention has developed to mean “once every Year”. By convention, the Governor-General delivers his State of the Confederation on the first day of a new session of Parliament.
